Bryan Brothers reach Vienna Semis . . .

Bryans Get Up to Reach Finals      at Vienna

               

Bob and Mike Bryan rolled into their 10th final of the year at Vienna on Saturday Night, beating the Polish tandem of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowki,  6-3, 6-2 in 51
minutes.  The Bryans are 4-1 this season against the Poles, who are the
#8 team in the world,and they are 14-7 against them lifetime.
 
On Friday Night the twin brothers defeated Austrian Oliver Marach and David Marrero of Spain, 6-3, 7-6 (2).  In the first round, they battled through a hard-fought match, facing down one match point in the second set before overcoming German Christopher Kas and Alexander Peya of Austria, 6-7 (9), 7-6(4), 11-9.

The American duo, the #1 team in the world for a record setting 6 years, have won doubles championships this season at Wimbledon, the Australian Open, Monte Carlo, Madrid, Queens and Houston, while reaching the finals at Sydney, Barcelona and Montreal.  On Sunday they will take on the #3 team in the world, Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor.

Fast Facts:

***  The twins will fly on Monday to compete in Valencia, then the Paris Indoors, and finally the season ending Masters Cup at London's O2 Arena.  Their primary goal is to finish the year at #1 for the 7th time.  They broke the Woodies record of 5 last year.

***  They are also very close to breaking John McEnroe's long standing record of being #1 for 270 weeks.  The Bros. also hold the record for most doubles titles with 73 and the most Grand Slam Finals with 19.

***  On Tuesday, the Bros., along with former world #1 Thomas Muster, enjoyed meeting and hanging with the President of Austria, Heinz Fisher.  They gave him one of their EXO 3 Rebel Prince Racket and were very impressed with his serve. 

***   The Bros. are in Austria after finishing up three charity events this past weekend in Southern California.  On Friday Night at the Spanish Hills Country Club their band played a benefit concert that was hosted by Merrill Lynch and Mike 'n Bob were presented the Global Citizen of the Year Award by the World Affairs Council.  The event was emceed by Michael Phillip of ML and the WAC.

***   On Saturday, Mike and Bob held their Slam Jam at the beautiful Malibu Racquet Club.  They played an exhbition against Mardy Fish and Prakash Amritraj following a star studded Celeb Exo that featured Piers Brosnan, Kaley Cuoco, Jon Lovitz, and Donna Milles.  Playing and in attendance and helping out with the event were Hall of Famers Tracy Austin, Rosie Casals, Andrea Jaeger, and Pam Shriver.  All time greats Vijay Amritraj, Ken Flach and Ricky Leach also played, while former tour star Trey Waltke was the driving force behind the event and is the GM at MRC and he was assisted by Club Pro John McCampbell and Sandy Thacker.  MRC Clubs pros Erik Blackmore and Craig Cignarelli also were very helpful on the day of the event.

***   Pros playing in the Slam Pro Am included three time USC All American and #1 player and NCAA Singles Champ, Stevie Johnson; former tour star and WTT Coach Chuck Adams; UCLA All American and NCAA Doubles Champ and two time Grand Slam Mixed Champ and Tennis Channel commentator and star, Justin Gimelstob; the delightful, talented, and fast rising young American, Sloane Stephens; former UCLA All American and NCAA finalist and tour player and coach, Tony Graham; former North Carolina star and Cardio National clinician and pro to the stars, Chris Ojakian; and former UCSB top player Evan Jurgensen.  Ashley Harkleroad, Vince Spadea and USC coach Peter Smith were also in attendance.
 
***   Ams playing in the Pro Am and making magnanimous and generous donations to the Bryan Brothers Foundation included: John Cox from Orange County who won it, Peter Brual, Gary Cuoco, Greg Ford, Bret Hankey, Michael Johns, Thea Lasky, Vassil Pertchinkov, David Rydell, Jerry Shevick, Mike Sidley, Peter Tripp, Shaughne Warnack, and Maureen Weston.  Court monitors that did a wonderful job included:  La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club pro Amelia Armes; coach and author, Mary Pat Faley; famed San Diego attorneys, Brian and Elisabeth Forbes; and renowned agent, writer, WTA tournament director, and PR phenom, Sara Fornaciari.
 
***   On Sunday at the Cool Planet Tennis Fest at Spanish Hills, hosted by Dave McKinney, many of the same Pros played, with the addition of two time French Open Champ and Bakersfield pro, Hank Pfister; former tour player and UCLA Bruin Mark Basham, the current coach at Westmont; and former tour doubles star and popular UCSB head coach, Marty Davis.  Special thanks to SHCC Asst. Pro Brian Giffin for heading up the ball kids and all kinds of other tasks and support.
 
***  A wonderful and enthusiastic group of Ams included:  Peter Brual, Mike Cheiky, Janet Collier, Harold Edwards, Dr. Allen Levesque, Jonathan Severn, Mark Shipp, Christine Tepaske, Tim Warren, Ron Weckbacher, and Abhay Vaidya.

***  Mike and Bob and Coach Bryan had an incredible experience in doing an exo and clinic at San Quentin's Maximum Security Prison on Sept. 23.  They were amazed by the greeting and cheering they received from the inmates who all swarmed around a make shift court that had been built by the prinsoners themselves.
 
***   The Bryans all enjoyed playing in the Esurance Tennis Classic hosted by Hall of Famer Rosie Casals and Robert Kaliski at the picturesque Harbor Point Tennis Club in Mill Valley to benefit To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation and Youth Tennis Foundation, Sept. 23-25.  The event also honored their iconic Stanford tennis coach and legend, Dick Gould.  The Bros. enjoyed hanging with Coach Gould and also coach John Whitlinger and some of the Farm's top players.
 
***  The Bryan Bros. Band has been super busy of late - - - playing several gigs across the country and around the world in the past month: a gala sold out gig at the San Rafael Pavilion with American Idol finalist, Michael Johns; grammy award nominee, James Slater from Nashville; and Sammy Hagar's drummer Davis Lauser; a sold out street gig for charity after their exo in Mobile with Andy and Mardy; gigs in Beijing and Shanghai; and then three packed and rockin'gigs this past weekend with Johns, Slater, and the world's best drummer, Jim Bogios, of the Counting Crows, performing at a Banquet in Camarillo, at the beautiful Malibu Racquet Club, and the picturesque Spanish Hills Country Club.
 
***  Mike and Bob sure enjoyed playing a couple of sets last Friday with Dr. Mickey Krinsky, a noted Orthopedic Surgeon who has done lots of work with big time sports teams and athletes, and also Bob Safier of Mill Valley.  Both of these men and their friends and family spent the weekend in Camarillo, attending the three BBF Events and they also made generous donations to the charities supported by Rosie Casals and Robert Kaliski, and also the Bryan Brothers Foundation.
 
***   Coach Bryan has been emceeing quite a few events of late: the fabulous Esurance Tennis Classic; the sensational MS Event hosted by Chris Ojakian and Tracy 'n John Austin at the venerable Kramer Club in Palos Verdes; the three Bryan Bros. Foundation Events in SoCal; and he will now journey to Toronto to emcee the Sampras-Raonic Exo; then fly down to Greensboro to do the Isner-Querrey Charity Weekend; and then on to New Braunfels to do two days of talks at the Texas High School Coaches Convention for Prince; and then finally joining up with the Bros. and Sam Querrey at the gala Jake Owens 'n Mardy Fish Tennis 'n Music Event in Vero Beach.
 
***   Kathy and Lucille Williams hosted a lovely shower for Michelle Bryan on Friday, Oct. 21.  Bob and Michelle are expecting their first child - - - a daughter, probably to be named Micaela (after Mike) - - - in late January.  The table settings were wonderful, with beautiful China and Silverware courtesy of Grandma Alice Bryan.  Pink and white Chinese lanterns adorned all the trees .  Bob, Mike and Wayne turned out for the party at the end - - - and sported pink ties in honor of soon to arrive little Micaela.
 
***   Mike and Bob and the entire Bryan family were so very saddened by the unexpected passing of Ken Meyerson last week.  Ken was the big agent in the sky and had a heart of gold and was always so kind and helpful to us and really to everyone he came in contact with.  The tennis scene will not be the same without him and we will all miss him and his dedicaiton to his clients and his wonderful laugh and sense of humor.  We send our most heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.
